Safe At Home Conference Follow-up

The 10th Annual Safe at Home Conference was held Tuesday, May 6 at the Conference Center Niagara Falls.  The event attracted nearly 200 participants from the Greater Niagara Region, Monroe County, Genesee County and Canada. 

Plenary speakers included:

Lane Judson (www.lanejudson.com) who shared his tragic story of how police officer involved domestic violence affected his life and what he's doing to change local and national domestic violence laws.  

Michelle Garcia, Executive Director of the Stalking Resouce Center at the National Center for Victims of Crime gave participants valuable information on Using Technology to Stalk.  She also conducted workshops on Teens and Stalking and Stalking and Sexual Assault.

Other speakers included:

David Heffler, Ph.D., president of Forensic Mental Health Counseling Center of Western New York.  His workshop was Understanding Adult Sexual Offender Risk Assessment and Treatment.

Luther K. Robinson, Jr., M.D., is an associate professor of pediatrics in the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, State University of New York at Buffalo, and the director of Dysmorphology and Clinical Genetics in the Division of Genetics of the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo at Kaleida Health. Dr. Robinson spoke on the topic of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

Allison L. Turkel, is Senior Attorney at the National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse spoke on the topics of Investigating and Prosecuting Stangulation Cases and Investigating and Prosecuting Cases with Devopmentally Delayed Victims and Witnesses.
